Kitchen remodel costs vary by needs

Compare kitchen remodel quotes and learn what to compare in cabinets, installation, labor and project costs before you choose.

Why do two kitchen remodeling estimates vary so much?

Two estimates may not include the same products or services.

One proposal may include cabinet installation, countertops, demolition, disposal, plumbing, electrical work, appliance installation, trim and project coordination of painters and plumbers, etc, while another quote may leave several of those items for the homeowner to arrange themselves.

Cabinet construction and wood type influences the cost. Is hardware included? Drawer construction, finish quality and installation standards can also differ.

When comparing kitchen remodeling quotes, compare what is included—not just the number at the bottom.

Does keeping my existing kitchen layout save money?

Often, yes.

Keeping sinks, appliances, walls, windows and doorways in approximately their existing locations can reduce plumbing, electrical and construction costs.

However, we don’t recommend keeping a poor layout simply to avoid every construction expense. Sometimes one carefully planned change can dramatically improve how the kitchen functions without requiring a complete reconfiguration.

How much does moving plumbing add to a kitchen remodel?

There isn’t one standard price because the difficulty depends on the home’s construction and how far plumbing must be relocated.

Moving a sink several feet may be relatively straightforward in one home and much more involved in another because of floor joists, concrete, basement conditions, drain locations or existing plumbing.

We evaluate those conditions as part of planning the project.

Why does kitchen installation cost vary?

Installation cost depends on much more than the number of cabinets.

Uneven floors, walls that aren’t square, difficult access, demolition, surface preparation, appliance fitting, trim work, custom modifications and conditions discovered in an older home can all increase installation time.

Good installation also involves details homeowners will see and use every day—level countertops prevent cracked stone tops, aligned doors, properly fitted trim and cabinets and appliances that work together as planned. Some contractors claim they can install your kitchen in a day or two. Are they missing these important finishing touches?

Can MR Planners give me a kitchen cost estimate before I commit to a remodel?

Yes. Photos, approximate measurements and a conversation about what you want to change can help us establish a realistic starting range. In office, we can demonstrate past kitchen or bathroom projects we have done and what they cost as a comparison to what your size project might be.

For a detailed remodeling estimate, we need to consider the actual kitchen, measurements, product selections and installation requirements.

Our goal is to help you understand what is realistic before you spend money ordering products that may not work for your space or budget. Hope this helps. Contact us today! Planning is never wasted time.
